Results of the Vth Visiting Session of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro” held in Omsk.
The Vth meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro” was held on March 27, 2015. It was the first time when the meeting was held in Omsk at the premises of OmskClinical Hospital. There were more than 50 specialists from different parts of Siberia visited the meeting. Neurosurgeons from Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Novokuznetsk and Omsk took an active part in the event.
Aleksey G.Kalinichev, Professor of Neurology and neurosurgery division of Omsk State Medical Academy, Valeriy I.Larkin, Head of neurology and neurosurgery division of Omsk State Medical Academy and Dzhamil A.Rzaev, Physician-in-chief of the Federal Neurosurgical Center who presented Novosibirsk, were the Chairmen of the meeting.
After greeting words, Deputy on surgery to Physician-in-chief of RegionalClinical Hospital (Omsk) Victor E.Dudarev addressed to the audience. He noticed the importance of such conferences where it is possible to discuss problems using the experience of specialists from different cities.
The first report on “Brain tumors in children” was presented by Valeriy I.Larkin, Head of neurology and neurosurgery division of Omsk State Medical Academy.
The importance of this problem is first of all determined by high death-rate from malignancies occupying the third place among death reasons after traumatism and cardiovascular diseases. Apart from that, Dr.Larkin noticed that course of brain tumors in children has some peculiarities connected with intensive growth of nervous system of a child.
In case of brain tumor presence in children, such tumors can rapidly progress but children have higher chances for recovery than adults because compensatory abilities of their organism are high.
The next reporter was a neurosurgeon from regional clinical hospital, Aleksandr A.Shesterikov. In his report on “Surgical prevention methods of post-operational complications in treatment of pituitary tumors” Dr.Shesterikov noticed that this theme nowadays is a topical subject because the problem of surgical methods of complications prevention remains unsolved. In spite of significant achievements in modern techniques of tumors removal, complications after such surgical procedures happen to be. The doctors of Omsk regional hospital together with specialists from Nizhniy Novgorod designed new polymeric implant for skull base bone defects reconstruction in endoscopic surgery of pituitary adenomas. In his report Dr.Shesterikov told in details about their achievements and ways of their application in practice.
Report on “Differential facial pain treatment” was presented by Aleksandr Y.Kormilets, a neurosurgeon of Omsk clinical hospital. The major part of the report was dedicated to combination therapy of facial pains. He paid particular attention to such types of treatment as surgical one, outlining cryosurgery, and decrease of trigger zones potency and resection of temporal artery, X-ray therapy, physiotherapy, conservative prevention and also preventive measures of chronical pain syndrome.
The head of radiological division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center, radiologist, Mikhail E.Amelin became the first invited speaker from Novosibirsk. The first slide of his presentation held the attention of the audience by its understanding of differences of approaches to trigeminal neuralgia between surgeons and radiologists. The report was dedicated to a point of view of a radiologist to trigeminal neuralgia.
The Chief radiologist of Omsk region, Galina N.Dorovskikh made warm comments on the report of Dr.Amelin and shared his point of view.
A report of Dzhamil A.Rzaev, Physician-in-Chief of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) on “Microvascular decompression in treatment of trigeminal neuralgia” provoked great interest among the audience. Dr.Rzaev mentioned about success of Peter Jannetta in this sphere. He noticed that thanks to P.Jannetta microvascular decompression became popular all over the world and accepted operation in treatment of such severe diseases. He told in detail about a complex of pre-operational diagnostics, neurovisualization methods and about his personal experience in performing of such surgical procedures. He also noticed that success of surgical treatment first of all depends on precisely pre-operational planning.
The chief neurosurgeon of Irkutsk region, the head of Irkutsk branch of Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro” Aleksandr V.Semenov also has rich experience in treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. Dr.Semenov presented a small report and shared his experience of trigeminal neuralgia treatment using the method of paracentetic injection of glycerin into cistern of Gasser’s ganglion according to Hakanson. 90 patients have been operated for 4 years; it goes without saying that it’s a great experience in this direction. This information raised a lot of questions of the audience.
According to a tradition, the meeting ended with a small announce of forth-coming events of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons. The next meeting of the association will be held on April 24 at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk).
