Results of the IXth meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro”.
Regular IX meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons held at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) was headed by Jamil A.Rzaev, Physician-in-Chief of the Center.
The meeting was dedicated to the issues of surgical treatment of tumors of chiasmosellar area. 2 reports presented Bakhiyar Y.Pashaev, a neurosurgeon of neurosurgical division of “Interregional clinical and diagnostic center” (Kazan), a member of NASBS. Ekaterina V.Gormolisova, neurosurgeon of oncological division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) also presented her report.
During his first report Dr.Pashaev told the audience about his own experience of transnasal operations from microsurgical pituitary adenomas removal to endoscopic surgery.
Complications from transnasal operations were covered in detail, the ways of decreasing of % of such complications were also emphasized.
Dr.Gormolisova told about experience of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) in transnasal surgery of pituitary adenomas. She presented information about surgical procedures performed during working period of the hospital, about post-operation patients’ management and obtained results and complications.
“Endonasal endoscopic skull base surgery” became the last report of Dr.Pashaev where he emphasized anatomy of chiasmal-cellar area. He told in detail about the ways of plastics of skull base deformity either with the help of homeotransplant or self-tissues.
Both lectures of Dr.Pashaev were saturated with small but very significant in practical application advice that he had learned from his trips to Pittsburg’s clinic where he took his training.
Besides the lectures Dr.Pashaev had performed 3 surgical procedures. The first patient was 3-years old child with serious cerebrocranial trauma. He faced liquorrhea during a year. The operation was performed for nasal liquorrhea. The patient was released in satisfactory state without any liquorrhea signs. The second patient was a woman with somatic tropinoma. The tumor was removed. Recovery of somatotropin is noticed in post-operative period. The third patient had non-functioning pituitary adenoma. This case was interesting because the patient had abnormal tumor dissemination: it grew mainly intracellarly, it also invaded basilar sinus and had a large fragment in nasal cavity. Both patients with pituitary adenomas were removed in satisfactory state without additional neurological deficit and anhormonia.
Apart from participants being in the conference-hall, specialists from St.-Petersburg, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk took part in the meeting by video online-translation.
After a vivid discussion the chairman of the meeting announced preliminary agenda of the next meeting of the Association that will be held on August 28 in Irkutsk. Detailed information can be found here.
