A week of transnasal endoscopic surgery
SibNeuro (Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons) together with the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) will hold an educational course on endoscopic transnasal surgery during November 30 – December 4, 2015. Course program will include lectures of endocrinologist on hormonal disorders in pre- and post-operational period, lectures of neurosurgeons on common endoscopic approaches, endoscopic skull base anatomy, various approaches, methods of skull base defects plastics and ways of hemostasis.
There will also be 8 surgical show-cases on different pathologies of chiasmo-cellar area (hormone-responsive and hormone-inactive pituitary adenomas, craniopharyngiomas, nasal liquorrhea). All interested specialists are invited for participation. Participation is free of charge.

Schedule:
November 30 (Monday):
9 a.m. – surgical show-case
2 lectures will be given after the surgical procedure:
1. General principles of skull base endoscopy (operation planning, arrangement in the OR, philosophy of endoscopy) – O.R.Akobyan;
2. Hormone-responsive pituitary adenomas: diagnostics, possibilities of conservative treatment – A.R.Karapetyan.
The second surgical show-case will be performed after the lectures.
December 1 (Tuesday) – Karl Storz educational Center (27/3, Kirov street, office 16):
9 a.m. – Endoscopic skull base anatomy (O.R.Akobyan);
9:30 a.m. – skills training;
11:30 a.m. – Approaches in transnasal surgery: from classical transsphenoidal to extended approaches (O.R.Akobyan);
12 a.m. – skills training.
December 2 (Wednesday):
9 a.m. – surgical show-case;
2 lectures will be given after the surgical procedure:
1. Choice of patients with pituitary adenomas for surgery. Pre-operational examination (E.V.Gormolisova);
2. Classification of different transnasal approaches in levels. Possibilities of endoscopic skull base surgery (B.Y.Pashaev).
The second surgical show-case will be performed after lectures.
December 3 (Thursday):
9 a.m. – surgical show-case.
3 lectures will be given after the surgical procedure:
1. Hemostasis in endoscopy: different methods of hemostasis from mucosa to carotid artery damages (B.Y.Pashaev);
2. Endoscopic filling of skull base defects: modern possibilities of cerebrospinal-fluid fistula treatment (E.V.Gormolisova);
3. Experience of endoscopic endonasal surgery of chiasmosellar area tumors: experience of Krasnoyarsk doctors (P.G.Rudenko).
The second surgical show-case will be performed after lectures.
December 4 (Friday):
9 a.m. – surgical show-case.
2 lectures will be given after the surgical procedure:
1. Complications of transnasal surgery: intraoperational and in early post-operational period (B.Y.Pashaev);
2. Post-operational patients’ management from the point of view of endocrinologist (A.R.Karapetyan).
The second surgical show-case will be performed after lectures.
Intake of participants for skills training in Karl Storz educational Center is completed but all interested specialists can be present during training, ask questions and keep watch over the process.
