Comments of the “Young Neurosurgeons Competition-2016” Winner on the Visit to Romania.
International neurosurgical conference with a workshop is an annual scientific event being organized for more than 5 years in Cluj-Napoca – the second largest city in Romania. Cluj-Napoca is some kind of a scientific city, where a well-known in South-Eastern European countries Medical University is located.
This year (2017) the main topic of the conference was craniocerebral and spinal injury. The speakers from Germany, Serbia, Netherlands, Romania, Great Britain and Croatia presented reports on a wide variety of topics, for example, on the brain anatomy or on interpretation of the works of renaissance artists and sculptors from the neurosurgical point of view. Such controversial questions as Indications for intracranial pressure monitoring and concomitant craniocerebral and spinal injury treatment were discussed during the conference. It is worthy of note, that not only experienced neurosurgeons but also upper-year students and residents could take part in the Conference as speakers.
Apart from lectures there were tree workshops with a focus on micro neurosurgery, white matter dissection and neurosurgical treatment of epidermoid cyst of posterior fossa (live surgery) on the first conference day.
More than 200 specialists took part in the conference. Neuroanatomical competition NeuroQuiz was the highlight of the event. Medical literature, written by famous authors, was presented to the first, second and third degree award winners.
Cluj-Napoca, however, is not only rich of scientific and medical values, but is also attractive for tourists. It is a quiet eastern European city with a charm of antiquity, eclecticism of national Romanian culture and Austro-Hungarian Empire hangover.
